ATASCOCITA, Texas -- The teen who tragically took his own life at an Humble ISD elementary school Thursday was an Atascocita High School student, officials confirm.

Neighbors believe it was a 16 year-old boy who lived in the area.

“We’re a community and it’s a tragedy for all of us,” said neighbor Tricia Weaver. “And to know that he went to the school and did it on the property is even more painful.”

Oaks Elementary School canceled classes Thursday after the teen's body was found near the playground before sunrise.

“There was a jogger exercising near the campus and that person spotted a body,” said Humble ISD Spokesperson Jamie Mount.

Fortunately, it was well before any students arrived for school.

“We don’t live but two minutes from her and it’s my daughter’s school, it’s devastating,” said parent Crystal Johnson. “So, I’m just thankful and fortunate authorities found it and not a child.”

We don’t know much about the young man who died.

No identity has been released.

“I’m just concerned about what might cause him to make that choice and that he didn’t have anyone to talk to,” said Weaver.

She’s talking with her two children about ways to find help in a hopeless situation.

“You know, the pain that they’re experiencing is temporary, and suicide is a permanent solution that should never be a solution,” said Weaver.

Humble ISD expects school will be back in session on Friday.
