HOUSTON - Murder charges have been dropped against a woman charged with killing her husband in February.

Tu Thien Huynh, 29, told police Steven Hafer shot himself to death at their home on Newpark Drive on Feb. 2.

Detectives said the evidence didn't match her story and she was charged with murder.

Two months later, the Harris County District Attorney's Office announced the charge has been dropped.

“After further review of the evidence, the medical examiner has concluded this was a suicide, not homicide," said David Mitcham, Trial Bureau Chief for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. "Based on the evidence, we filed a motion that was signed by a judge and the charge has been dismissed. Whatever first impressions may be, ultimately decisions are based on the evidence.”

Huynh, a former nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center, has a two-year-old daughter.
