A local mom says she can relate to Jimmy Kimmel's emotional monologue when he discussed his newborn son's open-heart surgery.
Kimmel revealed Monday that his son, Billy, had a successful surgery shortly after his birth on April 21. His son was born with a heart defect.
"It really brought me back to the feelings we had of the certainty," said Heather Morgan. "Having to give your baby to a surgeon to help save his life. It's overwhelming."
Morgan said Kimmel's story was all too familiar.
When she was pregnant with her son, Gavin, they learned he had a large hole in his heart.
After he was born, he looked healthy. But six weeks later, doctors diagnosed him with Cardio Myopathy. Gavin needed a transplant.
At 3 months old, he received that heart. So, like Kimmel's story, her son’s story also had a happy ending.
“It's just unbelievable, the faith and the strength that you have,” said Morgan. “He had support and love from the doctors and nurses. It takes a team; it takes a village.”
