COLDSPRING, Texas -- A bomb squad was called in to investigate after five school buses were severely damaged by fire northeast of Houston late Wednesday.

Four of the buses are considered a total loss. The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD superintendent Dr. Leland Moore tells KHOU 11 News the fire is under investigation, but stopped short of calling the blaze suspicious.

Investigators later determined, after reviewing surveillance video, an electrical short in one of the buses sparked the fire. The blaze then spread to other nearby buses.

The San Jacinto County Sheriff confirms his office is also part of the investigation, and the state fire Marshal's office is expected to be on scene Thursday.

Students in the district are on spring break this week. Dr. Moore says the loss of the five buses will cause a problem for bus routes come next week, but an emergency plan is being put together to handle that.
