HOUSTON – A father opened fire on a trio of intruders during a home invasion in northwest Houston Tuesday night.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded at 9:15 p.m. to a call of a reported shooting in the 3200 block of Cliffmarshall Street.

Investigators said as a man was coming home from work three suspects forced entry into his residence and attempted to rob him, his wife and two children.

At one point, the male victim was able to retrieve a firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspects, police said.

The suspects sped away from the scene in a pickup truck, with one of the suspects having sustained a gunshot wound, police said. They abandoned the vehicle in an apartment complex near the 9600 block of Montgomery

Police said 30 minutes later they received a report of male shooting victim showing up at a hospital off of Highway 249. The suspect was then transported to another hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive his injury.

Police said the victims sustained no major injuries and both children, ages 5 and 6, were not harmed.

The other two suspects remain on the run, police said. HPD Robbery Division has responded to the scene conduct the investigation.
