A driver hit two men, killing one, in south Houston late Saturday night as they were crossing the street in an unprotected area.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened around 10 p.m on Martin Luther King Boulevard at Ridgeway Drive.

Police said the two men attempted to cross MLK at an unprotected area which was poorly lit. A driver didn't see them until the last minute and couldn't stop in time, hitting both men. 

Police said one died at the scene, the other man was transported to Ben Taub in critical condition.

The driver stopped and waited for police. Police said the driver wasn't intoxicated and no charges are expected.
