Houston METRO offering free rides to federal workers impacted by government shutdown

At least 35,000 Texans are on the federal payroll, including several thousand in Houston and the surrounding region, METRO said in its announcement.

HOUSTON —

Federal workers can ride METRO for free until the partial government shutdown ends, the agency announced Friday

The offer begins Saturday, Jan. 19 and is extended to federal government employees who have been affected by the shutdown.

Free transit will be available on METRO local bus, METRORail, Park & Ride and METROLift. Federal workers will need to show a federally issued government employee identification card at the time of boarding to receive the free ride benefit.
