The couple accused of helping kidnap their grandson has been granted bail.

Judge Dena Hanovice Palermo issued an order permitting Carlos and Jemima Guimaraes’ release upon posting $3 million cash bond. Officials say the order has been stayed pending appeal by U.S. Attorney’s Office to the District Court judge.

The couple is charged with helping their daughter kidnap her son from Houston and taking him to Brazil. Chris Brann, the boy’s father, worried if the couple were granted bail, he would never see his son again.

Brann told KHOU 11 News earlier this week the Guimaraes have unlimited financial resources and has no doubt they would run. Brann’s Brazilian attorneys also have told him if he were to fly to Brazil again to see his son, he would be arrested by authorities there for allegedly owing child support in Brazil.
