The City of Houston has stopped the replacement of the Freedmen’s Town bricks because there are concerns they may not be the right bricks.

Bricks were being re-installed Friday after they were damaged by a construction crew last year. Historians believe the bricks were originally laid by freed slaves and their descendants more than 100 years ago.

City officials say they are giving the contractor and archeologist for the project more time to check and approve the bricks.
