Update: Boil water notice for parts of northeast Houston lifted

The impacted area is along Will Clayton Parkway west of the Eastex Freeway. A boil water notice is expected to last a day or two - but wait for authorities to give the all-clear.

HOUSTON – The boil water notice that was issued for parts of northeast Houston on Sunday has been lifted as of Tuesday evening, according to Houston Public Works.

Final water samples confirm there has been no contamination and the water meets all state drinking water standards, the department said.

On Sunday, city officials asked residents in parts of northeast Houston to boil their water for consumption following weekend construction.

The impacted area was along Will Clayton Parkway west of the Eastex Freeway.

“Houston Water has completed repairs on a 66-inch (5.5-foot diameter) water main located near Beltway 8 North and US 59. Although the city knows of no resulting quality problems with the water supply to the area, a drinking water advisory is being issued for residents in the vicinity of Will Clayton Parkway, east of the airport and west of US 59 until final water samples are confirmed to meet state drinking water standards,” the city stated late Sunday.

Lab results should come back in a day or two, until the boil notice will remain in place.

Due to reduced distribution system pressure and low disinfection residuals, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Houston Main Water System (TX1010013) notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
