KATY, Texas - An armed woman was shot and killed by SWAT officers after a standoff in Katy Thursday evening.

The 54-year-old woman barricaded herself inside her home on Blue Beach Drive.

Neighbors said the woman lived alone and has said before she would shoot anyone who trespassed on her property.

A family member reportedly called 911 after being worried about the woman's mental state.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies said the woman was belligerent, very confrontational and threatened to hurt anyone near her home.

The SWAT standoff began around 2:30 p.m. and officials placed Franz Elementary School on lockdown Thursday afternoon during the ordeal.

The standoff went on for more than five hours before the suspect was killed.

Deputies said a mental health crisis team was on hand and tried to calm and talk the woman out of her home.

Eventually, deputies broke a window to see inside the home and that's when they said the woman pointed a gun at officers.

One of the officers shot her and a robot searched the home and found her body. Her identity has not yet been released.

"We had more than two dozen people here trying to save her life and it's very unfortunate. We hope for these things to end peacefully." said Deputy Thomas Gilliand with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
