HOUSTON -- A 7-year-old student drowned at a Houston-area pool over the weekend while on a trip for a baseball tournament.
The drowning was confirmed by the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District on Monday. The district said 7-year-old Greyson Pinner was from Mauriceville.
"He was friends with everybody. I know they're all gonna miss him as much as I do," said Alicia Pinner, his mother.
Pinner said her son's closest friends were on the baseball team that she coached.
Greyson had gone to League City over the weekend for one of his brother's tournaments.
Before the first game, Pinner said she and three other parents, Greyson, Dakota, and several others were relaxing by the pool at the South Shore Harbour Resort.
"They were having a good time. Us parents were just sitting there talking, and in the blink of an eye, it happened," said Pinner. "I couldn't tell you start to finish how it happened. I don't know. I don't understand…but it was quick."
Greyson's brother found him underwater and pulled him out.
He was taken to a nearby hospital then flown by Memorial Hermann Life Flight to the hospital where he passed away Saturday.
The Medical Examiner ruled it as an accidental drowning.
"I laid in the bed with him and held him and his dad was at his side and he held his hand and held his hand as we said our goodbyes to him," said Pinner.
His baseball league changed their Facebook page logo to Greyson's initials and his number.
The school district also released a statement:
"The Little Cypress-Mauriceville family is broken hearted at the loss of one of our Mauriceville Elementary students. There will be additional counselors on campus for any children or staff who need to speak to them," stated Sherry Combs, Little Cypress-Mauriceville ISD’s spokesperson. “The LCM family is focusing on helping the friends and family of the child and would appreciate prayers for those affected by this tragedy as they face the coming days."
