2-alarm fire rips through leasing office at E. Houston apartments

Firefighters were forced to cut open a section of the apartment gate to battle the massive flames from the two-alarm fire.

HOUSTON – Flames ripped through an apartment building's front office in east Houston overnight.

This happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday in on Maxey Street.

Firefighters were forced to cut open a section of the apartment gate to battle the massive flames from the two-alarm fire.

Thankfully, only the leasing office caught fire, so no one was inside at the time.

But crews still had to aggressively attack the intense flames to prevent it from spreading.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The power was also cut off earlier, so crews could safely deal with the flames. It’s still out as of 5:30 a.m. so residents are in the dark right now.
