HOUSTON - Remembrance wreaths are now resting on thousands of gravestones across America. The annual December tradition is a way to honor those who served our country.
At the Houston National Cemetery, community members placed hundreds of wreaths at the graves of fallen service men and women.

The wreath-laying ceremony drew a large crowd, including the mother of a fallen solider. “It’s still very hard for me,” she said as she talked about her son Anthony Maddox. “He was so loveable,” she said of her 22-year old son who died in Afghanistan in 2013.
Maddox’s family volunteered to lay wreaths on gravestones. Richard Gonzalez and his granddaughter Marissa Salazar were also among the volunteers.
“I just wanted to honor those fought for the country,” said Salazar. “So I just wanted to come out here and help.”
“She just enjoys it, doing something for her Popo,” said Gonzalez. “And hopefully someday, somebody will do it for me."
