WALLER COUNTY, Texas - Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis is receiving attention for posting his hard stance on clown threats on Facebook.

Mathis particularly addressed kids in the community who may be tempted to follow in the footsteps of youth all over the country with the clown threat craze.

"Dressing up as a clown now is not a smart thing to do," said Mathis. "These threats are not funny, especially when you're dealing with people's children. I have children."

So far, four local students have been charged with making terroristic threats against area schools.

"You think them using the image of a clown is a joke, the truth is it's not a joke. It interrupts activities... it places fear in kids when they go to school," said Chief Deputy Brian Cantrell with the Waller County Sheriff's Office.
