HOUSTON - Three people were shot in two incidents overnight in southwest Houston.
One man was fatally shot and two people were injured by gunfire in shootings on Bissonnet and Spring Grove Dr.
According to HPD, two cars were driving in the 11100 block of Bissonnet shooting at each other around 10 p.m. Sunday. One of the cars lost control and crashed into trees in the median.
Two victims in the car were shot, ran on foot from the scene and were taken to the hospital. They are both expected to survive.
Around the same time, HPD received reports of a shooting in the 11800 block of Spring Grove where they found a man who had been fatally shot while sitting in his garage.
The victim has been identified by HPD as 60-year-old Ibrahem Lawal.
Neighbors and family members reacted and remembered Lawal Monday. Residents on Spring Grove Dr. describe their neighborhood as a usually quiet place to live.
“Shots there, shots in our two vehicles, it was wild,” said neighbor Rosemary Tourtellot.
“After that, a man in the garage with the neighbor started moaning, 'Lord have mercy, call 911, call 911,' over and over,” said Tourtellot.
Police say Lawal was caught in between an exchange of gunfire by a car passing by and a nearby home. They say Lawal was not the intended target.
A close friend of the family described the 60-year old as a father of one who lived with his wife and just came back from Afghanistan.
“Very, very angry because why would you, somebody in front of his house? You just shot him like that? I don’t know, I wish you know they would be brought to justice,” said the family friend.
A sentiment neighbors agree with.
“It’s unnerving, it’s scary, especially since this was an innocent victim,” said Tourtellot.
Police say at this time, there are no known suspects. Police do not know if the two shootings are connected.
Anyone with information in these cases is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
