Houston Police say an alleged criminal was fatally shot by the man he tried to rob during a struggle at a northwest side apartment complex.
The shooting happened at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of Lamonte.
Police arrived and found a man, 22, dead in a courtyard at the apartments. The man who shot him was nearby and answered questions for investigators.
According to HPD, the shooter said he was waiting in the courtyard of the apartments when he was approached by a man who tried to rob him at gunpoint. The two fought over the gun, and the robber was fatally shot by his own weapon.
No charges or arrests have been made at this time, and as per standard protocol the shooting will be referred to a grand jury.
Police have not released the identities of the shooter or the suspected robber.
