Pearland PD warns residents of individuals pretending to be city workers

The Pearland Police Department is warning residents about individuals that come to your door claiming to be city workers. Police said two men came to a woman's home and burglarized it after they told her they worked for the city.

PEARLAND, Texas – Police are warning Pearland residents to beware of individuals coming to your door saying they work for the City of Pearland.

The Pearland Police Department said they were recently made aware of a situation where two males knocked on a woman’s door and told her that they worked for the city. They said they were there to trim her trees for free. They then asked her to show them her backyard and choose which trees she wanted trimmed.

The woman believed the two men and let them in her backyard.

Police said one of the suspects then told the woman that he was going to leave and talk to her neighbor but instead he entered her home and burglarized it.

The woman was able to catch the two men in action and they both fled the scene in a brown pickup truck.

The police says here are a few signs to look for when someone comes to your door claiming to be a city worker:

  • Ask to see their identification card or credentials
  • Looked for marked vehicles with the City of Pearland logo or police logo
  • Ask for employee ID card
