HOUSTON- An off-duty reserve deputy constable was shot at multiple times during an attempted robbery by an acquaintance in northeast Houston early Saturday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Wipprecht Street. The Precinct 1 reserve deputy constable was off-duty while giving an acquaintance a ride.

HPD said the two had an argument in the deputy's vehicle before his acquaintance pulled a gun and attempted to rob him.

The suspect and the deputy then got out of the car and started shooting at each other. The deputy shot the suspect.

The suspect shot the deputy in the buttocks and the leg before leaving the scene. The deputy is in stable condition.

HPD said the suspect showed up to Ben Taub hospital about an hour after the incident. He is in stable condition.
