HOUSTON- Two men are facing charges after one of them shot at a Meadows Place police officer in his car early Saturday morning in southwest Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. at S. Kirkwood Road and Scottsdale Drive when a Meadows Place police officer attempted to stop a car for traffic violations.

Police said the driver refused to stop and the officer followed after him into the city of Houston limits, where the suspect suddenly stopped the car.

One of the two suspects in the car opened the door and started shooting at the officer as he was in his police car.

It is believed it may have been the passenger who did the shooting, according to HPD. The driver was quickly taken into custody, but the passenger took off running and fled the scene.

Officers set up a perimeter and eventually found the passenger. He was taken into custody.

Officers also found the gun and other items the passenger had dropped while running on foot. The officer was not hurt and no one was shot.

The officer didn't return fire. The suspects face Felony Evading charges and "Attempted Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon" charges.
