PEARLAND, Texas – Police in Pearland say a man shot and killed his estranged wife in front of their three young children.

The crime happened Tuesday evening at the Tranquility Bay apartments at 2920 Oak Road.

Investigators say 47-year-old Rodolfo Chaires, Jr. and his wife had recently separated after living together in the Lubbock area, but the estranged husband tracked his family down to Pearland. He went into the apartment and talked with the victim for a couple hours before shooting her, according to authorities.

Police say around 7:45 p.m. the couple's three children, all three under the age of 12, called 911 to report the shooting.

The mom suffered two gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital as police put out an arrest warrant on a capital murder charge against Chaires.

The man initially fled the scene but was found and arrested just a few miles away around midnight.

During the search, police warned that Chaires was armed and dangerous.
