HPD: Man shot, killed after intervening in assault in S. Houston

Police say a man was shot and killed after intervening in the assault of a woman outside a south Houston convenience store.

HOUSTON – Police say a man was shot and killed after intervening in the assault of a woman outside a south Houston convenience store overnight.

According to the Houston Police Department, Frank Moaning, 75, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Tamaurick Hickmon, 22.

Police said it started as a disturbance at 10 p.m. Monday outside a convenience store located in the 8100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Investigators said Moaning was physically assaulting a female outside the store when Hickmon intervened and stopped the assault.

An hour later, Moaning, who allegedly assaulted the woman, returned to the scene where Hickmon was still present. Police said Moaning pulled up with a shotgun and fired once at the victim in the back as he ran away.

Hickmon then ran away after being hit and collapsed a block away, police said. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said a half later, Moaning returned to the scene at the convenience store and claimed he was part of the original disturbance.

Moaning was interviewed by detectives and then charged in the incident.
