A man shot and killed his brother during a "tragic accident" early Saturday morning in east Houston, police say.

According to the Houston Police Department, police responded to a shooting call shortly after midnight at a home located on Teanaway near Tilgham.

Upon arrival, police say they learned a 21-year-old man accidentally shot his 19-year-old brother while "handling a firearm." The victim died at the scene.

"Right now, it seems nothing more than just a tragic accident," said David Clark with HPD Homicide.

Police say their mother was the only other person in the home at the time.

The investigation is ongoing.
