HOUSTON – A bizarre standoff with a suspected Chick-Fil-A burglar finally ended in the middle of a west Houston pond early Thursday.
Police say the suspect tried to escape by swimming to a small island in the middle of the large retention pond near Beltway 8.
It all started at 3 a.m. Thursday when officers received a call of a burglary in progress at the Chick-Fil-A off the Beltway and Bellaire Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they spotted the suspect running behind a nearby Home Depot and into the retention pond.
Police called out SWAT, their dive team, a K-9 unit and a boat to help retrieve the suspect who refused to surrender.
After about three hours, the suspect was finally arrested. He faces a burglary charge.
