HPD: 2 children injured in drive-by shooting in southeast Houston

Police responded to the scene Thursday evening in the 3900 block of Scott Street. They say the victims are both children under the age of 10.

Two children were shot and injured Thursday evening in southeast Houston.

Police say around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a woman went into a nail salon in the 3900 block of Scott Street and left her children in the car.

According to police, someone drove by and shot the car multiple times, striking an 8-year-old boy in the head and a 5-year-old girl in the leg. They say an 11-year-old was also in the car at the time but was not injured.

The boy and girl were transported to the hospital where police say the boy is in critical condition.

“There are individuals out here who saw something and know something," said Asst. Chief Troy Finner. "Talk to us and let justice prevail.”

Police say the shooting may be targeted because of the amount of bullets at the scene. They are looking at surveillance footage and are searching for the suspect at this time.

“For those who don’t want to listen and think we are just going to stand by and let our streets become blood baths, they’ve got another thing coming," Finner said. "The majority of the people of this city are good people. We are going to do everything we can on this case so that justice can be served.”

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
