HCSO: Drunk driver flees scene after fatal crash in NE Harris Co.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office investigated two major crashes near FM 1960 and Aldine Westfield Road. The first crash was caused by an alleged drunk driver who fled the scene and the driver of the second crash is being tested for DWI.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A man is dead and several people are injured after two major accidents early Sunday morning in northeast Harris County, according to deputies.

The Harris County Sherrif's Office says the first crash was caused by a drunk driver who fled the scene. The driver of the second crash is being tested for DWI.

Deputies said both accidents happened around 2 a.m. on FM 1960 and Aldine Westfield Road.

The first crash involved a small sedan and a Chevrolet pickup. A small sedan with three passengers was traveling westbound on FM 1960. A Chevrolet pickup was traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed and crashed into the rear end of the small sedan.

The small sedan spun out of control into the intersection after the impact and split into two pieces.

The driver of the small sedan was pronounced dead on the scene, according to deputies. The two other passengers were transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Chevy pickup stopped his truck and got out of his vehicle. Witnesses told deputies that the driver appeared intoxicated. He was staggering and had slurred speech.

Deputies said the intoxicated driver fled the scene of the accident. They believe someone may have picked him up.

Tow trucks were being used to block the roadways of this accident. A few minutes later, a white SUV traveling westbound on FM 1960 crashed into three tow trucks.

One person was inside the white SUV.

Deputies said the driver of the SUV had to be extricated from the car by firefighters. He was taken to a local hospital.

Deputies are testing to see if the driver was intoxicated.

No tow truck drivers were hurt but a passenger in one of the tow trucks complained of injuries and was transported to a local hospitals.

Deputies are looking for a male between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet 2 inches who was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He is about 150 to 170 pounds in weight.
