Safe Kids Greater Houston is hosting a car seat event on Saturday that will offer guidance on proper car seat and booster seat installation.

The event is set from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Mac Haik Chevrolet at 11711 Katy Freeway in Houston. Certified Child Passenger Safety technicians will be on hand to provide information on safe installation.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration research, 59 percent of car seats are not installed correctly. Safe Kids Worldwide is launched the Ultimate Car Seat Guide to provide parents with advice on protecting their children in cars.

The guide was developed with support from General Motors and gives expert guidance to parents, particularly new parents, on the important decisions faced when choosing and using a car seat. It offers tips on how to fit a child into a car seat and how to know when it is time to move to a new type of seat.

“We are constantly asked by parents what kind of car seat to buy, how to install it properly, and when a child should move into a booster seat,” said Diana Suarez Martinez with Safe Kids Greater Houston. “Not every parent can make it to one of our car seat checkup events held by Safe Kids Greater Houston each year, but with the Ultimate Car Seat Guide, we can reach more parents with helpful tips to protect kids on the move.”
