Make a Difference Day was Saturday, Oct. 22.
Volunteers from across the country unite for Make A Difference Day, one of the largest annual single days of service nationwide. Make A Difference Day is made possible by our viewers and the people of TEGNA with support from Arby’s Foundation and Points of Light.
Dozens of KHOU 11 employees and their families gathered Saturday at Sheltering Arms, a Neighborhood Center facility, located at 3838 Aberdeen Way in Houston, to give back to the community. Volunteers striped the parking lot, painted interiors, made holiday cards for seniors, prepared emergency kits for seniors, refinished specialty made chairs, did gardening and more.
The Sheltering Arms Adult Day Center is a state-licensed facility established in 1987 designed specifically for adults who have Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Providing effective and appropriate programs throughout the day for members is the most important aspect of their services. A calm, predictable and accepting environment provides a sense of security that enables individuals with dementia to make full use of cognitive abilities.
In Houston, KHOU 11 is the proud exclusive television partner for the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s season. KHOU 11’s very own Chita Craft and Mia Gradney served as emcees and ambassadors throughout the walk season.
