These 9 industries are trying to hire new employees ASAP

From restaurants to day care facilities, companies are racing to hire new workers as the U.S. economy reopens.

HOUSTON — Unemployment benefits will soon run out, but the good news is many companies are hiring this spring.

Morgan Baylor like many other restaurant workers found herself in the unemployment line last April.

"During quarantine, a lot of people were out of work. A lot of restaurants were done," Baylor said.

But now she's back to work, and she's thrilled to be working again.

"It's only going to go up from here," she said. "I believe we can will things to happen if we try hard enough."

Next to the hotel industry, restaurants were some of the hardest hit businesses during the shutdown last year.

Owner and Chef Jose Salazar said now is the time to apply for restaurant jobs.

"Everyone in our industry is hiring right now. It's actually hard to find people to work," Salazar said.

So with the help of employment site Monster.com, we found the jobs coming back fastest in 2021.

"At Monster, we are seeing a return of jobs in the leisure sector, accommodation and food services," career expert Vicki Salemi said.

She said these are the industries bouncing back the fastest:

  • Hotels.
  • Restaurants and Food Service.
  • Nursing. Most doctor's offices were forced to let go of its nursing staff as 2020 coronavirus restrictions stopped elective surgeries and most doctor visits..
  • Construction. More and more workers are needed, especially for home building in this red hot home buying market.
  • Shipping.
  • Logistics.
  • Airlines.
  • Information Technology
  • Day care.

In the shipping industry, Kerry Byne is president of Total Quality Logistics, the second largest freight brokerage firm in the nation.

"We are looking to hire a thousand people across the county," Byne said.

According to him, they need everything from sales people and accounts to freight bookers and more.

Meanwhile, most airlines are rehiring pilots, flight attendants and gate workers as travel get into full swing.

Finally, daycare is immediate need of staff as home-based workers move back the office.

In some states, unemployment benefits will end in June and in others by Septembers. Now is a great time to look for work, so you don't waste your money.
