The Emmy ceremony attempted to spice up one of the more lackluster segments by having Sofia Vergara stand on a spinning platform center stage while the chairman of the Television Academy, Bruce Rosenblum, talked next to her.

The segment drew immediate backlash from people on Twitter, who called it sexist and misogynistic.

Many compared the visual to the image of Beyonce dancing in front of the word "FEMINIST" at Sunday night's VMAs.

Not long after this segment, Julianna Marguilies accepted her best actress in a drama trophy by saying, "What a wonderful time for women on television."
