Hilary Duff's Los Angeles home was robbed while the star was on vacation, a representative for the actress confirmed to USA TODAY.
Duff's family, pets and home are safe after the break-in, and she will increase her security measures in the future, her representatives said.
During the time of the robbery, the Younger actress was traveling in Canada with her 5-year-old son, Luca, and sharing pictures of her vacation on Instagram. The incident is further evidence of a scary new reality for celebrities whose social media vacation posts could make them targets for criminals.
After Kim Kardashian's Paris robbery in 2016, the alleged ringleader claimed he monitored her social media posts to help pull off the robbery, according to a police report obtained by French newspaper Le Monde.
“The jewels were shown on the Internet, and (she said) that she didn’t wear fakes ... the time she would arrive in France, you just had to look at the Internet and you knew everything, absolutely everything,” Aomar Ait Khedache, the 60-year-old veteran robber, told police.
Kardashian admitted that her social media posts may have contributed to the robbery's timeline on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
“I was Snapchatting that I was home and that everyone was going out,” she said. “So I think they knew (bodyguard Pascal Duvier) was out with Kourtney, and that I was there by myself. They had to have known we were leaving that day. They had this window of opportunity and just went for it.”
