HOUSTON – Accomplished Houston musician and former Rockets house bandleader Ezra Charles is presenting a special show this Friday at The Heights Theater on the origins of boogie-woogie music.
The show is scheduled for at 8 p.m.
Charles said the music form was invented by former slaves who went to work in logging camps in East Texas after they were freed.
He said the music form has its roots in Africa and it would involve one musician playing one piano, something lively that would entertain everyone after a hard day's work.
Charles said boogie-woogie music eventually turned into what we know of today as rock and roll.
