I have no idea what I'll be doing, but then again I'm kind of the fly-the-seat-of-my-pants type of gal. I could spend the evening with my favorite doctor (Dr. Who -- yes, I'm a Sci-fi freak) and a box of Godiva chocolates, or I could decide to paint the town pink and see who's serving valentine cocktails.
But if you're a planner, here's a list of some things you could do:
GO ON VALENTINE HABOR TOUR ON GALVESTON BAY
This sounds adventurous and romantic. Plus, it's super cheap. For just $12 each, you and your honey can take a one-hour historic/dolphin tour on the Seagull II. You'll also get complimentary soft drinks and chocolates (whoo-hoo! I love chocolate).
Times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and you leave from Pier 22 adjacent to Galveston's Texas Seaport Museum. Tickets can be purchased in the Texas Seaport Museum Gift Shop. Contact Galveston Island Tours at 409-765-8687 or 888-425-8687 for more info.
DRINK CHOCOLATE BEER
Whole Foods has introduced an adult twist on the ice cream float. Pick up some Young's Double Chocolate Stout mixed with Framboise Lamic Beer and pour it over vanilla ice cream. Decadent. But if that sounds like too much work, you can always drop over to Midtown's Coffee Groundz for a Chocolate Kiss (it's a dark beer).
GET A DATE
It Date Time is a speed dating company in Houston. So if you're looking for love, check out their Valentine's Day event at 1:30 p.m. at Stags Head Pub at 2128 Portsmouth St. The afternoon session is perfect as you can find your match and then there's still time to have dinner together after. The event is for single professionals over the age of 30. You'll need to register in advance.
ATTEND THE ANTI-VALENTINE'S HOWL AT THE MOON PARTY
This event is obviously for those who aren't loving the whole romantic Valentine's thing. So if "Love Bites" isn't just a Def Leppard song, but your motto, get your anti-Valentine butt down to Howl at the Moon for a crazy night of piano dueling and more! Plus, if you bring a mutilated picture of your ex you'll get a discount off admission.
ENJOY BREAKFAST ON THE BAYOU
Working that night? Take your honey on a breakfast date on the bayou. Enjoy pastries, juice and coffee while leisurely drifting down the bayou on a pontoon boat. They tell me this trip through the heart of the Nature Center is a great way to watch and learn about bayou life. The boat will pick you up at the Bay Area Park boat launch. Reservations are required and the cost is $25 for adults.
GO WILD AT MARDI GRAS
Combine two celebrations into one at Z Krewe Zestival in Galveston. Party begins at 4:00 p.m. and goes to midnight. Your Zestival pass includes access to Trumpets Balcony on the Strand, dinner, 4 drink tickets, and a live band from 7-11 p.m. Tickets are $75 at www.zkrewe.net, or contact Kristie Schoppe at 281-337-4606.
Of course, most restaurants and hotels around the city are having Valentine's specials so I didn't focus on those things as I'm sure you can check them up yourself.
